Jane (Curry) Chambers

Jane (Curry) Chambers
March 24, 1949 ~ June 26, 2016

Jane Chambers, 67, of Norman, OK, passed away on June 26, 2016 at Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano, TX after a short illness due to complications from heart surgery.

She was born on March 24, 1949 to William Curry and Lois Murray in Exeter, CA.

Jane graduated from Southeast High School in Oklahoma City in 1967 and then attended the University of Oklahoma for her Bachelor of Fine Arts - Drama and Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. She later graduated Summa Cum Laude from California State University – Bakersfield with a Master’s Degree in Education Administration.

She married James L. Chambers on November 12, 1977 and they had one child, Becky.

Jane began her career in speech-language pathology in 1975. She enjoyed a long and varied career at school districts in Oklahoma and California until 1991, when she became the Assistant Chief of Central Program Services at the Porterville Developmental Center in Porterville, CA. She retired from that position in 1999 and returned to her “first love,” speech-language pathology, and was employed as such by Hobbs Municipal Schools in Hobbs, NM from 2001-2008 and then Norman Public Schools from 2008-present, at Madison Elementary.

Jane loved antiquing, reading, and watching classic movies with her Yorkshire Terrier, Bruiser, at her side, but was most passionate about music. She especially enjoyed going to live concerts around the state with her daughter, which they did several times a year to her delight.

Jane is survived by her husband, James, of the home; her daughter, Becky, of Norman, OK; and sisters Jan Hubbard, and Jane's twin, Jean Curry, both of Chelsea, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jane’s celebration of life will be August 5th at 11am at Havenbrook Funeral Home, in Norman, OK.
