Clara Mae (Black) Chaffin

ENID, Okla. - The memorial services celebrating the life of Mrs. Clara Mae Chaffin, 93, of Enid, will be held Sunday Oct. 27, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mathew Thoms of Calvary Chapel officiating.

A private internment will be held at a later date. Cremation and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

She was born May 22, 1920, to George and Ruie "Stubblefield" Black in Foss Okla.

She was raised on a farm outside Oakwood, Okla. She graduated from Oakwood High School in 1937 and then attended business college. She worked as a telephone operator and a riveter for Beech Air Craft before becoming a hospital ward clerk.

She married Earl L. Wanzer July 24, 1940, in Watonga, Okla.

She is survived by three daughters, Frances Tappan of Burkburnett, Texas, Myrna Best of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sherry Wanzer of Enid; son Joe Wanzer of Enid; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters.

She is preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial be made in her name to St. Jude?s children?s hospital or to the Amarillo Boy?s Ranch with Brown-Cummings serving as custodians of the funds.
