Ramon Leroy Busick

Ramon Leroy Busick
November 4, 1933 ~ April 9, 2026

Ramon Leroy Busick, of Norman, joined his Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at the age of 92 years. Born in Elkhart, Indiana, on November 4, 1933, Ramon was the son of the late Vera and Gerald Busick. He married Lena Mae Busick on April 26, 1955, and they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage, before Lena joined her Heavenly Father on April 8, 2015. As a young man, Ramon showed his adventurous spirit and determination by hitch hiking from Indiana to Texas to enlist in the United States Air Force. During his tenure in the Air Force, Ramon piloted several aircrafts and lived in various locations including Delaware, Florida, Texas, California, Hawaii, and the Philippines. After serving 21 years in the Air Force, Ramon retired to Norman, Oklahoma, where he went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1973. Ramon then began to work as Interim Associate Director of Research & Education Computing Services at the Health Sciences Center of the University of Oklahoma, where he would dedicate 22 years of service. Despite his professional accomplishments, his most cherished roles were as husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Ramon was full of life and enjoyed long walks and travel with his family, visiting places both in the country and abroad. His retained his love of aviation even after his retirement from the Air Force, and spent his days flying, teaching, and mentoring as the Wing Commander for the Oklahoma Civil Air Patrol. In his free time, Ramon’s interests in astronomy, amateur radio, and photography kept him occupied. His love of photography is something that he passed on to his children, teaching them everything from how to take a good picture to how to develop film. He was a fierce champion of education, and impressed the importance of education onto his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In the words of Ellis, one of his cadets from the Civil Air Patrol, Ramon believed “being intelligent isn’t an excuse to demand others to bow to your vision; being intelligent gives you the mandate to serve others.” This mindset was apparent in every aspect of Ramon’s life, which now lives on in those who were blessed to know him.

Ramon is survived by five of his children, Arthur A. Busick, Michael D. Busick and wife Ning, Patrick R. Busick, Mark L. Busick and wife Vickie, and Steven P. Busick and wife Mojgan; thirteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Ramon was preceded in death by his parents Vera and Gerald Busick, his wife Lena M. Busick, and his daughter Linda M. Clinton.
