Bennie Brumley

Bennie Brumley
October 3, 14940 ~ October 9, 2022

Bennie Brumley, 82, of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel, Oklahoma. Bennie was born on October 3, 1940, to Delmar Brumley and Ethel Dansby Brumley in Durant, Oklahoma. After graduating from Durant High School, he went on to study Education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University where he obtained his teaching degree. During this time, Bennie married the love of his life, Charleta Green on August 24, 1964.

Shortly after graduation, Bennie landed his first job as a high school teacher in Grants, New Mexico where he and Leta lived for 5 years. Bennie taught in New Mexico and Texas until he and Leta, along with their 4 children, Steve, Scott, Lisa and Lori settled into their permanent home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma in 1972. There, Bennie taught social studies at Broken Bow Middle School until his retirement in 1992 at the age of 52 years. Bennie and Leta lived on to be the fun-loving grandparents of 7 precious grandchildren and 4 beautiful great-grandchildren.

Throughout his entire life, Bennie enjoyed music, attending church and playing mandolin during song service & singing bass in his gospel quartet “The Sounds of Joy”. He also enjoyed reading, hunting with his brothers, Darrel and Marion and with his sons and nephews. Bennie’s biggest passion in life was serving God and raising his family to love and serve the Lord. All who knew Bennie loved his kind heart and his quick-witted sense of humor. More than anything, Bennie was the most loving and compassionate father and husband a family could ask for. Bennie dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was the best DAD, “Bus” and Papa to all who knew him.

Bennie is preceded in death by his beloved sister, Vickie Brumley, his parents, Delmar and Ethel Brumley, brother and sister-in-law Darrel and Marvel Brumley, and mother and father-in-law Dolly and Charles Green.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Leta Brumley of Broken Bow Oklahoma, his 4 children, Steve Brumley of Duncan, Oklahoma, Scott Brumley and his wife Traci Brumley of Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Lisa Brumley and Kevin Haney of Little Rock, Arkansas and Lori Dell and her husband Michael Dell of Spring, Texas. His grandchildren are, Eric and Landon Brumley, Gage Williams & Sydney Ipollito, Lexy and Matt Cameron, Jacob and Kamil Brumley and Patrick and Mackenzie Dell, and great-grandchildren, Linny B and Olivia June Cameron, Emma Jo and Jacoby Brumley. Bennie is also survived by his loving siblings, Marion and Marie Brumley of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Janelle and Gary Hammel of Durant, Oklahoma and Jouree Brumley Simmons of Durant, Oklahoma.

The Brumley family would like to also acknowledge Jason Norrid of Skiatook, Oklahoma. Jason has been, and continues to be, like a loving son to Bennie and Leta as well as a brother to all of the Brumley siblings throughout our life. Bennie is also survived by his brother-in-law Buddy and wife Judy Green, sister-in-law Kaye Green, many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and last but not least, his favorite and loyal fur baby, JT.
