Miars E. "Bud" Brown

Miars E. "Bud" Brown
January 25, 1926 ~ April 20, 2014 (age 88)

Miars E. "Bud" Brown of Norman, OK passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014.  Bud was born January 25, 1926 to Lulu Miars Brown and Bert E. Brown in Orient, IA.  The baby of the family, he and his older sisters, Betty and Joy Dean, grew up in Orient.  Bud graduated from Orient High School in 1944.

As a young man, Bud taught in the youth program at his local church.  He also enjoyed traveling in the area playing the saxophone while performing with his band.  He was a fan of the big band era throughout his life.

Bud moved to Kansas City, MO in 1947.  There, he met and married the love of his life and girl next door, M. Joann Thomson.  They had three sons, Steve, Ted, and Mike.  While raising the boys, Bud enjoyed countless hours working on cars, fishing, boating, and camping with them.  He loved his family very much.

Bud spent his career at Jack Cooper Transport, Inc. of Kansas City, MO.  He took great pride in his work and made many lifelong friends there.  Bud held various positions in Kansas City, MO, Dallas, TX, and Oklahoma City, OK.  In 1995, after 47 years with the company, he retired as Senior Vice President.

In retirement, Bud’s favorite ways to spend his time were with his family, golfing with friends, running car pool for his granddaughter, reading, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and chatting and eating with his "breakfast club" and with new friends he met along the way.  His favorite trips included an Alaskan cruise, driving though California, and a tour of the New England states.  A gregarious, generous, and talkative man, he spread cheer wherever he went and will be greatly missed.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, his wife, and his youngest son, Michael.  He is survived by sons, Steve Brown of Estes Park, CO and Ted Brown of Jacksonville, FL; daughter-in-law, Sherry Brown of Norman, OK; and granddaughters, Katie Brown of Norman, OK and Brookie Brown of Jacksonville, FL.

Memorial Services will begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman.  Arrangements for Bud and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
