Chesney DaNae Broughton

April 4, 2004 ~ December 21, 2017

Chesney DaNae Broughton died Thursday, December 21, 2017, in Oklahoma City. She was born April 4, 2004, in Norman to Chad and Tina Dunlap Broughton.

Chesney was a middle school student at Marietta. She loved animals, cooking, playing her Sims, watch YouTube, and talking with her friends, Bailey and Mack.

She loved spending time with family and was a wonderful granddaughter, daughter and sister. She made many friends with the medical staff at OU Children’s Hospital. Nurses were always prepared for a good laugh when they entered her hospital room.

Chesney attended SNU School for Children in Bethany before attending Earl Harris Elementary. She soon attended Hinton Elementary when her father took a principal’s position there. After three years of being a Comet, her father took a superintendent’s job at Strother.

Strother is where she met her best friend, Bailey, and her favorite teacher, Ms. Bailey. Strother is where Chesney collapsed. This later led to her diagnosis of leukemia. Chesney started treatment immediately at OU Children’s Hospital and continued her treatment through the Jimmy Everest Cancer Center.

Chesney continued to have a positive attitude during her three years of treatment and was always hopeful that she would be healthy and able to run, cook and travel with her family. Chesney displayed a true Christian attitude towards all people. She always stood up for the meek and saw the good in everyone. She had a pure and forgiving heart.

Chesney was preceded in death by her brother, Cayle Dane and her great-grandparents, Clayton and Minnie Dunlap.

Survivors include her parents; sister, Trilby Land; grandparents, Howard and Sharyn Dunlap and Melvin and Roberta Broughton; great-grandmothers, Joyce Widener and June Smith; uncles, Scott Dunlap and wife Amanda and Brian Dunlap; aunt, Jackie Keeler and husband Josh; cousins, Ashlee Dunlap, Audrey Dunlap, Blake Dunlap, Brinley Dunlap, Avery Ecker, Lauren Petty, Kyle Petty, Avery Keeler, and Morgan Keeler; her beloved pets Duchess, Princess and Delilah; and many, many friends and relatives.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 30 at Wilmont Place Baptist Church, 6440 South Santa Fe, Oklahoma City.

Donations can be made to the JECC, the OU Children’s Foundation, or OK Kids Korral funded by the Toby Keith Foundation.
