Robert Sidney Bridges

October 04, 1940 ~ February 05, 2018

Robert Sidney Bridges died February 5, 2018, in Enid, of cancer. He was born to Sidney F. Bridges and Opal M. Cramer Bridges October 4, 1940 in Enid.

Mr. Bridges attended Garber Public Schools and graduated high school there in 1958. He then attended Northern Junior College, transferring to the University of Oklahoma where he graduated with a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology in 1963.

He married Emma Lee Hughes from Covington in 1961, and from this union came two sons, Randall of Enid, and Richard of Yukon.

After graduating from OU, he worked in mental institutions in Florida and California. He brought his family back to Oklahoma in 1965, and worked for the Oklahoma Mental Health Department until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He is survived by his son Randell and wife Vicky, grandchildren, Randell, Jr. and Steven and son Richard, and grandchildren, Tyler and Dustin; his sister, Rosemary Bridges Metscher and husband Ted of Norman, and many relatives and friends.

Mr. Bridges was an avid supporter of environmental causes and was a published poet, voicing his concerns for the devastation of our Mother Earth by human actions. 

According to his wishes, his ashes will be interred in a buffalo wallow in the pasture of the Bridges Farm, north of Garber, where he was raised.
