Gladys (Mobley) Bradshaw

October 9, 1924 ~ August 11, 2014

Services for Gladys M. Bradshaw of Tyler, Texas were held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 15 at the Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler with Kevin Hard of the Tyler First Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Born October 9, 1924 at Rubottom, the daughter of Earl and Euna Garrett Mobley, she died Monday, August 11, 2014 in Tomball, Texas.

A Tyler resident since 1963, Mrs. Bradshaw was a teacher in the Tyler Independent School District for 25 years. She received a bachelor’s degree in English from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant and a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, Norman. She continued her studies in British Literature at East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas, and received a supervision certificate from the University of Texas at Tyler.

Before retiring from John Tyler High School in 1990, she taught English and was head of the English Department for several years. She was devoted to the teaching profession and loved her students. During her teaching career, she taught in Wheeler, Oklahoma City, Midland, Texas, Hawaii and Alaska.

In 1987, she received the Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding High School Teachers from the University of Texas at Sustin. She was also selected as Leader of American Secondary Education in 1972 and was named Who’s Who in Texas in 1975. In addition to her classroom teaching, she served as an Executive Board Member of Texas Joint Council of Teachers of English from 1981-1984, as Liaison Representative for the national level from 1978-1980, and as General Chairperson for Regional District VII from 1976-1978.

Mrs. Bradshaw was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Texas Retired Teachers Association, Iota Delta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and the American Association of University Women. Involved in volunteer community work, she assisted with the Literacy Council of Tyler and the Family History Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas William Bradshaw and all of her siblings, Buel Mobley, Leota “Sis” Mobley Sparks, Wid Mobley, Bobbie Jean Mobley Davis, Oren Mobley and Lillie Mobley Hodges.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Wid (Betty) Mobley and her children, Connie, Sharon, Pamela and Leon Mobley, all of the Clovis, California area; other nieces and nephews, Marie Sparks Floyd, Barbara Sparks Bond and husband, Wayne of Marietta, Rhonda Davis Krahn and husband, Allen of Tomball, Georgia Davis Barbin and husband, Oscar of Galveston, Texas, Del Wayne Davis and wife, Denise of Richmond, Texas, Joel Owen Hodges and wife, Joyce of Katy, Texas; the surviving children of her brother Oren, Linda and Gail of Fresno, California and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Serving as pallbearers were members of her church.
