Karen Jane (Warthen) Boyett

Karen Jane (Warthen) Boyett
January 16, 1963 ~ December 19, 2023

Karen Jane Warthen Boyett was born on January 16, 1963 in Ardmore, OK to Jane Gore Warthen Chuculate and Charles Lee Warthen. Karen graduated from Durant High School with the class of 1981 and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University before moving to Tulsa, OK in 1984. Karen met and married Scott Boyett of Tulsa. The couple had 2 children, Drew and Rachel.

Karen worked in accounting for several companies before starting her career in medical offices. She honed her skills in medical transcription and billing and coding with various doctor’s offices and surgery centers. She became a Certified Professional Coder in 2002 and started her own business doing medical transcription, billing and coding for various clients and performed billing and coding audits for other companies. Her work led to her traveling around and outside OK to train medical office personnel. Karen enjoyed any activity where she could use her creativity. There wasn’t a manual or power tool she didn’t own. She remodeled her home by installing new tile on her bathroom walls and floor, kitchen and hallway floors, and kitchen backsplash. She enjoyed building tables, refinishing furniture, and other wood working projects. She loved art, antiques, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. Karen never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting and making new friends her entire life, resulting in a large and varied group of friends. Four special friends Teala Echols, Eileen Schiebe Chanen, Dana Latham Phillips, and Tracy Malone Miller along with Karen, made up a group known as the Fab Five. These girls were friends from elementary school and texted or called each other daily.

Karen was preceded in death by her precious daughter Rachel, her father, Charles, her bonus dad, Jim Chuculate, maternal grandparents Bernice (Gore) Roberts (Vernon) and Thomas Gore (Eloise), paternal grandparents Rena (Warthen) Powell (Morgan) and Guy Warthen (Wanda), aunts and uncles Jerry and Gail Gore, Donna Gore, Bill Warthen, and Jackie Warthen.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother Jane (JB) of Mead, OK, son Drew (Mary) of Las Vegas, NV, sisters Stacy Hallmark (Larry) and Jamie Hamil (Kevin), both of Durant, OK and Carissa Hodges of Sherman, TX, aunts and uncles Barbara and Homer Wallace, Wayne Warthen, Ray Warthen, Pat Ziobro, Janice Warthen Shockley, and Dale Gore. Karen was a beloved aunt to nieces and nephews Blake Harlin (Maranda), Latesha Arnold (Levi), Ashley Taylor (Brett), Stephanie Curits (Doug), Elissa Hamil (David), Autumn Hamil (Katie), Daphne Mason (Jaiden), Abigail Lewis (Floyd), Julia, Garrett, and Newman Mason, 18 great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Karen was a type 1 diabetic. This disease affects so many. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Karen’s name to either the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) or the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
