The cause of death:
Students and staff at Murray State College are grieving after hearing the news that a math professor, Gregory Boyd, was suddenly killed in a car crash on State Highway 1 in Johnston County Wednesday morning.
Kirk Rodden worked alongside friend and fishing partner for 22 years.
"I just couldn't believe it," Rodden said. "I immediately called my wife and then shared the news with my next class which occurred five minutes from there and the ones who had him were just blown away."
Troopers say for an unknown reason, Boyd crossed the median on the highway and hit a semi that caused a fiery crash.
The semi driver, Mark Lawrence, was flown to a Plano hospital.
Boyd who also taught for the college at the University Center of Southern Oklahoma in Ardmore was on his way to class at the main campus in Tishomingo.
"Greg was the kind of professor that every student needed and the kind of academic leader that his colleagues really relied on," Rodden said.
