Jeannine (Frantz) Bowers

Jeannine (Frantz) Bowers
April 15, 1929 ~ March 20, 2014

ENID, OK - Funeral service for Jeannine Frantz Bowers, 84, of Enid, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church of Enid, with the Rev. Andrew Long officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home, Enid.

Jean was born April 15, 1929, to Harry P. and Thelma Frantz in Enid, Okla., and passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2014, in Enid.

The daughter of an Enid pioneer family, Jean was proud of her ancestors who staked their claims in the Oklahoma Land Rush.

She grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High School in 1947. After attending Ward-Belmont School in Nashville, Tenn., for a year, she transferred to the University of Oklahoma. She pledged Kappa Alpha Theta and was president of her pledge class, remaining active in the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Chapter throughout her life.

Jean married her childhood sweetheart, Jack Bowers, in 1949, making Enid their home.

She served on the YMCA Board, as a committee chairwoman for United Way, RSVP for three terms, and was a member and past president of PEO Chapter Q. She enjoyed bridge, tennis, yoga, cooking and being with her family, as well as her devoted English Setters.

Active in her church, First Presbyterian, she served as a deacon, elder, Stephen Minister, Vacation Bible School volunteer and loved serving Saturday Manna meals.

Jean enjoyed summers at the family cabin Smokerise in Colorado, entertaining at their farm and spending time with her husband at the ranch in Oklahoma. She was a devoted wife, loving mom, and adored Grammy. All would agree that Jean was the life of the party with her wonderful wit, zest for life and compassion for others. She was famous among her family and friends for her holiday peanut brittle and toffee. Jeans life can be summed up in one word, blessed. She enjoyed friends of all ages, had an adoring family and loved the Lord with all her heart.

She was preceded in death by one son, Chris Bowers; her parents, Thelma and Harry Frantz; and two brothers, Harry and Bob Frantz.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Bowers; two children, John Bowers and wife Susan of Enid, and daughter, Julie Mitchell and husband Greg of Amarillo, Texas; six grandchildren, Jay Bowers and wife Kara of Enid, Don Bowers of Oklahoma City, Amy Jeannine Griffin and husband John of New York City, Lizzie Sell and husband Rob of Fort Worth, Texas, Jeff Mitchell and wife Jessica and Andrew Mitchell and wife Dottie, all of Amarillo, Texas; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the special care teams of Circle of Love, Grace Care and her special friends Brenda, Melissa and Julie.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to First Presbyterian Church or Leonardos Childrens Museum Capital Campaign, with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.

Condolences may be given online at Brown-Cummings.com.
