Doris Jean (Johnson) Bowers
August 2, 1954 ~ January 14, 2025

Doris Jean (Johnson) Bowers, 70-year-old Vinita resident, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Miami Nursing Center. She was born on August 2, 1954, in Villa Ridge, Illinois to Raymond and Rosie (Rigney) Johnson. Doris graduated high school in 1972. She was a special needs foster parent for many years and worked as a house mother for Home of Hope. Doris loved the outdoors, taking care of her home and family, singing gospel and jazz, singing at her church, cooking, and loved her family very much. Doris was always the life of the party, wherever she was.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Shawn Johnson, siblings, Larry Johnson, Wilbert Johnson, and Birdie Montgomery.

The family includes her husband, Bill Bowers of Vinita, children, Jerry Cliff (Lydia) of Broken Arrow, Tony Johnson of Tulsa, John Cliff (Callie) of Austin, Texas, Jackie Cliff of Houston, siblings, Raymond Johnson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bobby Johnson of Paducah, Kentucky, Willie Johnson of Anna, Illinois, Louise Wade, Sharon Gay, Lula Johnson, and Valarie Brown all of Columbus, Ohio, and Margie Williams of Tulsa, ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, numerous other relatives, and friends.

The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the Timberhill Baptist Church at Four Corners (Bluejacket), with Chaplain Dan Weiser officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.highsmithfh.com or on the funeral home Facebook page. Arrangements are in the care of the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral and Cremation Services of Vinita. “Vinita’s only locally owned and operated funeral home.”
