The world lost a good man and a good friend on December 29, 2024, with the passing of Bobby Leon Boren. Services for Bob are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2025 at Canyon Road Baptist Church.
Bob was born November 7, 1938, in Talihina, Oklahoma, to John and Dorothy Boren. His siblings were Joe Dusin, Janis Boren Robson, and Ron Boren. He was married to the love of his life, Peggy Rhodes Boren, for 63 years. Their love story was one of two people who truly enjoyed each other. Bob and Peggy were inseparable, spending their time raising their two daughters, Missy and Tricia. They enjoyed spending time with their families and traveling. They had visited all but 4 of the United States plus several Caribbean Islands, Mexico and Canada. Their favorite pastime was to get in the car and go for a Sunday drive!
To say Bob never met a stranger is major understatement. From his future mother-in-law to the friends of his daughters to those he met through volunteering at the Sapulpa Historical Society, Bob made friends easily and had the unique ability to make you feel comfortable and like you had known him your whole life – even if you had just met him. His easy-going personality made you want to spend time with him and he always seemed to have time for family, friends or those who needed him. People weren’t the only recipients of Bob’s kindnesses. He loved all animals and would often come home with strays he had rescued. Bob was a man of integrity and loyalty and he was respected by all who knew him. He was a Christian and was baptized in 1966.
He attended both Stillwater High School and Sapulpa High School and was a proud member of the class of 1957. He loved all sports and enjoyed playing baseball and softball all his life. In 1951, he pitched a televised baseball game in Oklahoma City for the Stillwater Junior Aggies and he was an All-State Pitcher. Bob loved classic and antique cars, fishing, and all sports, especially University of Oklahoma sports. He was a Navy veteran, a member of the Early Ford V-8 Club of Tulsa, and volunteer for the Sapulpa Historical Museum.
Upon his return from the Navy, he began his work career at Liberty Glass. He then went to work at Zink Safety, which he later purchased and started Boren Safety Company, where he worked side by side with Peggy until his retirement.
Bob is survived by his beloved Peggy; their daughters Melissa Boren Dawson and her husband, Jack, and Patricia Boren Wolfe and her husband, Bobby; grandchildren Mitchell Dawson and his wife, Jenny, Matthew Dawson, and his wife, Megan, Charles Wolfe and his wife, Ashley, and Tori Wolfe Daniels and her husband, Bob; and great-grandchildren Beckett, Phoebe, and Ruthie Dawson, and Karson and Blake Daniels.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Porta Caeli Hospice House, Tulsa, or the Sapulpa Hisorical Museum. Donations can be made at www.portacaeli.org/donate
The family is planning a memorial service on January 31, 2025 at 1:00pm at Canyon Road Baptist Church.
Arrangements are in the care of Green Hill Funeral Home.
