Rev. W O Boomer

Rev. W O Boomer
Sep 23, 1932 ~ Mar 6, 2016

W.O. Boomer, 83, retired Nazarene minister, was surrounded by his family in his Bartlesville home when he departed this earth for his eternal home with Jesus.

W.O., as he was affectionately called, was born the son of Albert and Louie (Darden) Boomer on Sept. 23, 1932, in Leedey, OK. The family moved to Fairview where he attended school through 11th grade. W.O. graduated from El Reno High School in 1950. He furthered his education at Bethany Peniel College and studied education with an emphasis on coaching. W.O. received his calling to the ministry while a sophomore at a college revival. While attending Bethany W.O. struck up a relationship with a young lady who lived 50 miles from the campus, this meant he was only able to date her on Sundays. On May 29, 1955, after three years of dating, he was united in marriage with Carole Jameson in the Coleman Chapel Nazarene Church. They enjoyed 60 years of loving marriage.

After graduating college in 1959 the young couple, now blessed with their firstborn, took their first church in the small town of Vici, OK. After six years and two more children the family moved to Medford Nazarene for the next 16 years. This is where their three children attended and graduated high school. Boomer took the Stafford Nazarene church for four years, followed by the Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Johnson, KS for the next 11 years. Once again Boomer received a new calling - to pastor the Cleveland Church of the Nazarene before settling in Bartlesville where he held the position of senior adult minister for the First Church of the Nazarene - a position he held for more than 10 years before retiring in 2006 with 50 blessed years in the Lord's ministry.

During his years of service and into retirement, Boomer used his personable ability to connect with people of all ages and make friends easily to further the ministry of Jesus. His outreach ministry included talking with people while drinking coffee at the local coffee house, McDonald's, and over the past six years while receiving his regular dialysis treatments.

Boomer had many passions in life from sports, especially University of Oklahoma (OU) teams, to fishing and hunting. But most of all, he loved the Lord and wasn't shy about proclaiming his faith. He was a people person and loved to visit with those who needed compassion. He made it clear to his children and grandchildren that they needed to preserve their Christian heritage and faith. Boomer was diligent in making sure that close family bonds stayed intact even with the most distant relatives. Woodworking was a hobby and he made all of the kids and grandkids Wahoo boards. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him.

Boomer is survived by his loving wife of the home, Carole; three children, Mary Lou Long and Hui of Slidell, LA, Mark Boomer and Jennifer of Bixby, and Carl Boomer and Somphet of Wichita, KS; one sister Dortha Chancellor of Moore; 10 grandchildren, Leah Long, Addye Long, Kyle Boomer, Brooke and James Woods, Tyler Williams, Allie Wells, Jessica and Kris Molina, Albert Boomer, Daniel Boomer and Megan Boomer; and three great grandchildren, Phenix Stewart, Edith Woods and Harrison Williams.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Comforting Hands Hospice, 2450 SE Washington Blvd #A, Bartlesville, OK 74006.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9th at the Bartlesville First Church of the Nazarene. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home.

Online condolences and remembrances may be shared with W.O.'s family at
