Cal Berry Bone was born to Sidney Francis and Ura Pendergrass Kitchens Bone at Pike on June 18, 1934. Cal passed to his eternal abode Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the age of 88. He was the third son of eight children through the marriage of his parents Sidney and Ura. After Ura's death in 1947, Sydney later married Minnie Phillips which brought together her five children into the family household.
Cal marred Alice Joyce in 1968 and is survived by two sons, Michael and Robert Joseph Bone and their families, which include five grandsons, four granddaughters, and one great-grandson, all of the Irving, Texas area; two brothers and wives, John E. Bone and Virginia of Marietta and Marion R. Bone and Barbara of Bellville, Texas; brother-in-law, W.M. "Dub" Bell of Marietta; sister-in-law, Terri Cain Bone of Thackerville; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Cal was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Alice Bone; parents, Sidney, Ura and Minnie Bone; brothers, Juette McDonald, S.F. Jr., Jimmy D., Jerry D. Bone and Sammie Joe Phillips; sisters, Lynda Faye Bone, Rozella "Sue" Barrick, Laura Bell, Ilene Skinner and Saundra Phillips; brothers-in-law, J.T. Barrick and Ronald Skinner; sisters-in-law, Frankie Idell Bone, Peggy Barber Phillips and Dollie Bone; nephews, Jeffery Bone, Steve Bell and Timothy Bone; and niece, Kala Phillips.
Cal obtained a political science degree and later a master's degree in elementary education, with emphasis on teaching, from Oklahoma State University. He served two years in the Army at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, performing administrative duties in the headquarter offices and obtained a rank of E-4 and an honorable discharge in 1958. Cal began teaching in the elementary school system in Tulsa and later moved to Nebraska for a role in implementing new and advanced teaching concepts in the county schools. He later taught elementary classes in El Paso, Texas, retiring after 20 years at the age of 72. There are many individuals around the country who experienced the multiple talents, professionalism, and his unique teaching concepts for elementary school classes.
