William Travis "Bill" Bond

William (Bill) Bond, age 87, of Mangum, passed away Thursday evening, August 26, 2010, at Quartz Mountain Medical Center in Mangum.

Mr. Bond was born in Ft. Townsend, Oklahoma on January 18, 1923, to William Thomas and Ethel J. (Mayfield) Townsend. On September 10, 1947, he married Anita Joan Brumfield in Texarkana, Texas and she preceded him in death on June 15, 2003. Mr. Bond was an employee of General Dynamics, later known as Lockheed Martin for over thirty years. During the time with Lockheed Martin, he was the second hourly employee ever elected to the Hall of Fame along with being a lifetime member of the American Legion. After his retirement they moved to Mangum, in 1995, from Haltom City, Texas.

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one grandson, John Thomas Bond, and a son, Thomas D. Bond.

He is survived by two sons, George Michael Bond and wife Donna of Joshua, Texas and William Terrell Bond and wife Colleen of Penn Valley, California; two daughters, Constance Leigh Phelps of Mangum and Laurie Ann Smith and husband Terry of Oklahoma City; one brother Elbert Bond and wife Betty of Mangum; two sisters, Glenna Rau and husband Orson of Kansas and Viola Reid of Texas along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Bond will lie in state at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 31 and September 1, 2010, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 2, 2010, at Bluebonnet Cemetery in Colleyville, Texas.

Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
