Olin Henry Bond was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1939 to Cecil and Mary Helen (Gilstrap) Bond. Olin was named after both his grandfathers. His maternal grandfather, Olin Hood Gilstrap, inspired his life's passion of continually pursuing deeper knowledge of scripture, especially prophecy. He spent his childhood traveling through the Southwest United State as his father worked in the oilfield. They settled in Duncan in the early 50s where he graduated from high school in 1957. Olie was active in the rodeo scene in southern Oklahoma, riding broncos and was even a rodeo clown.
Olin joined the Marines following high school and was stationed on the Navy Ship U.S.S. Bremerton in the Pacific Ocean. Olin served his country for three years on active duty and three more years in the reserves. He returned to Duncan post-service where he joined his father in the oil business and soon met his lifelong love, Jo Ann. They began their married life in Hennessey.
As he and Jo Ann began to build their family, work took them from the Flying B family ranch in Durant back to Duncan to Tripoli, Libya to Dubai UAE to Aberdeen, Scotland to Friendswood, Texas to finally settling in Argyle, Texas and Marietta. During those years, their family grew from just the two of them to four children, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and countless creatures great and small.
When Olin and Jo Ann became empty nesters, they delighted in traveling to Israel numerous times. They loved exploring the land, participating in multiple service projects, and forming and building many relationships with Jews and Gentiles alike that remain deep connections to this day.
He was a lover of knowledge with a vast collection of books. As evidenced by his never-ending study of scripture, he fully embraced Hosea 4:6 which says "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge."
His devotion to his family and to Jesus Christ is unmatched.
Olin was preceded in death by his parents. His surviving family includes his wife, Jo Ann of 63 years; daughter, Jennifer Womack and husband Tres, daughter Lori Bond; son David Bond and wife Marie, and son Joshua Bond; grandchildren, Cristopher Womack and wife Audrey, Courtney Ryza and husband Matt, and Lena Wall and husband Jim; great-grandchildren Kaden Womack, Guinevere Ryza, Elise Womack, Sutton Womack, Riley Ryza, Nicolas Wall, Olin Womack, and Jackson Ryza; brother, LaNoel and wife Jerry; sister Pat Whetsell and husband Bob; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
