He was one of the men that gave meaning to the term the Great Generation not in the battlefields, but in the oil fields of Kern County.
Born the eldest of seven children to William E. And Annie L. Bolinger, Calvin was the product of the Oklahoma dustbowl and the Great Depression.
In search of better times, his family moved to California and stayed at the Sunset Labor Camps near Arvin and Lamont.
As a teenager he worked on the nearby farms to help support the family and eventually went to work in the oil industry where he worked for more than 43 years until he retired in 1989 from Petro Resources as Production Supervisor.
Calvin was a loving family man of God, and a devoted Christian throughout his life, serving as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon at Harmony Baptist and Columbus Street Churches and in the local Baptist Association.
In 1943, he married the love of his life, June Murrell Bolinger, to whom he was married for 57 years until she went to be with the Lord in 2000.
Calvin is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Mary; his grandchildren, Michael and wife, Sharon. Sheri Eckard and husband, Travis; his sister-in-laws Bonnie Murrell and Carol Bolinger; four adoring great-grandchildren, Bryce and Berkeley Bolinger and Ireland and Addison Eckard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Velma Jackson, Marie Jackson,
Elva Henson, Francis Nadine Davis, and Mary Bundy, and his brother William E. ( Bill) Bolinger.
Calvins life serves as a great lesson in the belief in love, family,
perseverance, hard work, faith in God, that those who were around him will carry with them forever. Calvin knew that all things work together for good, to them that are called to his purpose. (Romans 8:28.)
We are thankful that Calvin suffered only shortly before the Lord graciously took him home.
Services will be held at he Greenlawn Southwest Chapel Monday, June 6, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, June 5, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
