Oscar Berryman, Jr.

Oscar Berryman, Jr.
December 13, 1931 ~ November 24, 2018

Oscar Berryman Jr passed away peacefully November 24th, 2018, just before his 87th birthday. He was born in Russellville, Arkansas to Oscar and Norma Berryman where he enjoyed a happy childhood. He completed his bachelor's degree at SMU in Dallas. In 1954 he wed the love of his life, Nora Jane Cheek, and they were married for 64 years. Oscar served active duty in the Army from August 1953 to August 1956, stationed at Fort Myer, Arlington Virginia, while working at the Pentagon; his active duty was followed by five years in the Reserves. Together, Oscar and Jane raised four children. They have twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Oscar had a heart and passion for his family, his church, and community. He worked diligently for his employers, primarily those within the retail industry. Oscar enjoyed golf, was an avid stamp collector, and always had a camera ready to record the experiences of his family and their travels. He and Jane enjoyed square dancing, hosting foreign exchange students within their home, and he helped distribute thousands of Bibles through The Gideons. For 44 years, Oscar was a member of Guthrie First United Methodist Church, and he was also an active member of Kiwanis. The love and support he provided to his family, however, is his greatest achievement, serving as a stellar example to all.

Oscar is preceded in death by mother, Norma Garrigus Berryman and father Oscar Berryman, Sr., brother, Robert Ross Berryman. He is survived by wife Jane, children Alan and Angie Berryman of Edmond, Joy and Stan Steiner of Jackson Hole, WY, Robert and Shelley Berryman of Guthrie, Lisa and Keith Hoel of Guthrie; grandchildren Ben and Miriam Conrady, Ben and Emily Steiner, Lea Steiner, Avi Steiner, Christa and Doug Pierson, Christan and Beau Marchant, Brittney and Brody Jarnagin, Brayden Berryman, Brianna Berryman, Kandace Hoel, Lindy Hoel, Aldin Hoel; great-grandchildren John and Eloise.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are requested to be made to Guthrie First United Methodist Church, 224 E. Noble, Guthrie, Oklahoma 73044. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday November 26th, 10:30am at Guthrie First United Methodist Church. Services are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
