Joel Emanuel "Joey" Bergkvist, III

October 1, 1942 ~ November 13, 2010

Joel "Joey" Emanuel Bergkvist, III, 68 went home to be with the Lord and Savior on November 13, 2010 surrounded by family and loved ones in Oklahoma City. He was born on October 1, 1942 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Joel and Mary Bergkvist. He graduated from Highland High School. He joined the Coast Guard, and was in the Army where he did two tours of Duty in Germany and two tours of Duty in Vietnam.

He married Beverly Long on May 12, 1986 and their travels took them to Odessa, Texas, Datil, New Mexico, Oklahoma City, and Crescent.

He was a devoted, proud and very active member of the First Baptist Church of Crescent. He loved his family and friends, playing cards, games and moon. Joey loved his precious Shih Tzu dogs.

He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly of the home and stepchildren, Tanya Rising and husband Dennis of Cashion; Jay Long and his partner Angel Ladner of Guthrie; his children Joel, Elaine, Joanie, Timothy and Matthew; brother John Bergkvist of Albuquerque, NM; sister Mary Ann Stewart of Dallas; granddaughter Jamie Bailey and husband Ben; great granddaughter Addison Bailey, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and extended family and Sadie. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Patricia Nickels.

The family would like to thank all the healthcare workers at the VA Hospital who were so compassionate in their care and put Joey's comfort above all.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Crescent. Services are under the direction of Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent.
