Ernest L. "Larry" Bereman

January 2, 1946 ~ February 10, 2019

Ernest L. Bereman "Larry" was born in Jackson, Tennessee on January 2nd, 1946. He passed away on Febuary 10, 2019 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the Veterans Affairs hospital with his wife, daughter and granddaughter by his side.

His father was active in the Air Force so as a child they moved around a lot causing Larry to graduate high school in Guam in 1965.

Shortly after high school he enlisted in the Air Force soley to "dodge the draft letter that had arrived." He served as an air traffic controller during the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged as Sergeant E4 in 1969.

Larry's first marriage was to Dinah Willis. She gave birth to his first two children, Cory and Kristin whom where both born in Hawaii.

He attended the Grad program at Oklahoma Centeral State and graduated in 1973 with a degree in journalism.

His career path landed him in Ponca City, Oklahoma as the chief editor and photographer at the Ponca City Newspaper in which he was employeed for 15 years.

Shortly after moving to Ponca he met the love of his life Delima Montgomery and they had two children, Cassandra and Shane. They have been married for going on 37 years.

He decided to pursue his masters degree in mass communications at Oklahoma State University. He graduated the program in 1999 With an amazing GPA of 3.90.

He took a teaching job in Kirkville, Missouria at Truman State University. After two years he moved closer to home teaching at Emporia State University in Kansas. He retired from there in 2008.

After retirement he enjoyed working in his shop that he himself had built. He started learning the trade of carpentry and built some pretty cool walkways and a gazebo for his back yard, also making different size picnic tables, benches, etc.

His most recent hobby, however, was creating his own comics that are full of political satire and dry humor. His drawing skills were scarce at first but he quickly improved.

He was also very politically involved and was looking forward to seeing Donald Trump get impeachment. He was also very excited about new House Member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the big waves she has been making.

He was very passionate about anything he did and everything he talked about and nobody could ever beat him at trivial pursuit.

Services will be held Thursday March 7, 2019 at his home in Ponca City, OK at 7pm. 804 Gray Ave. Ponca City, OK 74601
