Teresia (Shipman) Benefield

March 9, 1955 ~ September 21, 2021

Teresia Shipman graced this world with her presence on March 9, 1955 to Loyd Shipman and Rose Dawn Hartman Miller in Lindsay. She flew to heaven on the wings of angels on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from Brandon, Mississippi while surrounded by her family.

As a small child, she spent her time between her Grandma Shipman's and Grandma and Grandpa Hartman's houses in Oklahoma while her dad was traveling for work. It was then that she developed a very strong bond with her Uncle Johnny. Later in life, her Uncle Johnny and Aunt Connie became her bonus parents. She attended Turner High School most of her life, but when she was old enough, she moved to Waynesboro, Mississippi to be with her Daddy. She graduated from Florence High School in Mississippi in 1972.

Most of her working career was spent as a clerk for the Rankin County Chancery Office in Brandon, legal secretary for the Earl Tate Law Office in Longview, Texas, and as a receptionist for the Mercy Health Love County Doctor's Clinic in Marietta. During her life she had many jobs but among her favorites was being Gollie to her granddaughter Kyla and TreTre to Trevor, Conner, and their precious little Brynlee; Trenton and Chelsi; Dillion and Trayce.

Teresia was tiny in stature, but a little "spitfire" with a strong spirit, determination, and fierce love for her small circle. She would always wrap her people up in the strongest hugs with the "I love you so much" grunts. She spent her life living between Oklahoma, Texas, and Mississippi, leaving a trail of memories tainted with a good time everywhere she went. She had a green thumb and enjoyed spending time pampering her beautiful flowers and bountiful gardens. She always bragged about all the crappie fish she could catch and never stopped thinking about her next trip to the lake. She and her little dog, Suggie spent countless hours together while solving sudoku and fill-it-in puzzles and playing games on her phone. If you really wanted to get her fired up, just mention a game of Phase 10 cards; she would start smack talking and then proceed to kick your "tail"!

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Shannon Kelly and husband Brian of Brandon; cousins that she thought of as her own children, Sissy Burge and husband Billy of Marietta; mother, Rose Dawn Miller of Kilgore, Texas; sister, Nancy Rozzell of Tulsa; grandchildren, Kyla Gibbs, Trevor and wife Conner Burge, Trenton Burge and Chelsea Shurbet, Dillion Kelly, and Trayce Burge; great-granddaughter, Brynlee McKay Burge; a special friend that was like her sister, Tammy White; a faithful caregiver, Ms. Ida Griffin; and nieces, several cousins and friends.

Teresia was preceded in death by her father, Loyd Shipman; stepfather, John Miller; bonus parents, Johnny and Connie Hartman; and brothers, Kent Shipman, Henry Lee Shipman, Wade Miller and Little John Miller.

Her cremains will be inurned at a private memorial for her immediate family to be held in the future. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Burneyville Cemetery Fund, C/O BancFirst, 105 Southwest 2nd, Marietta, OK 73448.

This obituary included a photo of Mrs. Benefield.
