Vernon Lee Beebe

Nov. 18, 1927 ~ Dec. 22, 2007

A memorial service for Vernon Lee Beebe, 80, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Susan Southall will officiate. Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

He was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Kingfisher to Godfrey Hiram and Erma Lee Hogszette Beebe and died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at his home in Enid.

He attended Kingfisher schools, graduating in 1946. He worked at Kingfisher Times and Free Press until joining the Air Force. He was stationed at Yokota Air Force Base, Japan, during the Korean War.

He married Nelda Jo Cunningham Sept. 16, 1951, in Kingfisher. They made their home in Enid. He worked in the composing room at Enid Morning News and Eagle. In 1970, he joined the staff at O.T. Autry Vocational and Technology School as the printing instructor and received his bachelor�s and master�s teaching degree from Oklahoma State University. He retired in 1990.

He was a member of Enid Briggs Evening Lions Club since 1962, where he served in varous offices. He was elected district governor of Oklahoma District 3A. He was instrumental in organizing six new Lions Clubs in his district. He was later elected state council chairman for the six Oklahoma districts, where he organized six more clubs. He was honored as Life Member after more than 40 years of membership and service by International Association Lions Clubs.

After retiring, he took over the senior travel program for the Keenagers of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Nelda Jo, of the home; one daughter, LeNelle Backus of Enid; one son, Brent Beebe of Edmond; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaugher.

He was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and one sister.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Lions Foundation or First United Methodist Church.
