Memorial services for Mary Alice Mims Becan, 55, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, October 8 at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta, and then a 1 p.m. Sunday, October 9 at the SPJST Lodge, 2624 Floyd Street, Dallas 75204.
Born December 11, 1955, in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of Benjamin Branklin Mims II and Lucye Lindsey Mims, she died Saturday, October 1, 2011, while sleeping at home in Plainfield, Indiana.
Mrs. Becan attended North Mesquite High School in Mesquite, Texas and was a longtime resident of Falconhead in Burneyville. She last worked as a nurse aid in Marietta but had been disabled for many years. She also served with the First Responders and Love County Search and Rescue. She loved crafts of any kind and at one time owned a craft mall in Marietta. As a member of the Marietta Gunfighters Association, she helped organize Frontier Days in Marietta for many years. She also loved to ride on the back of her husband’s motorcycle and was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders and the Southern Cruisers Riding Club.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, John David Becan; a daughter, April Michele Benefield; four grandchildren, Tanner, Logan, Cassie and Alyvea; her brothers and sisters, Ben F. Mims III, Teresa Hardy, Sarah Sulley and Marti Reese (deceased).
