Charles Beardsley

Memorial services for Charles Beardsley, 83, of Marietta, were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 1 at the First Christian Church “Disciples of Christ” in Marietta.

Mr. Beardsley died Thursday, September 27, 2012, surrounded by his family.

Charles and Nancy Darlene Nixon were married on November 14, 1953 in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Mr. Beardsley was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jesse Beardsley; a brother, Bobbie Wayne Beardsley; and two sisters, Laverne Gaynor and Patsy Curtis.

Charles served in the United States Army – Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Panama Canal. He was a systems administrator for GTE for 49 years. Since moving to Marietta 23 years ago, he was an active member of the First Christian Church “Disciples of Christ” in Marietta for 12 years.

Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was devoted to his family, loved traveling, the Gulf of Mexico, and gourmet food. His trip to Spain in 2001 was one of the highlights of his life. He will be missed tremendously.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Beardsley of Marietta; two brothers, Raymond Beardsley and wife, Robbie of Carlsbad, New Mexico and George Beardsley and wife, Joyce of El Paso, Texas; his children, Nona Lynn Beardsley of Kansas City, Kansas and Tony Beardsley and wife, Michelle Welch of Fayetteville, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Amy Welch and husband, John of Columbia, Missouri, Laura Scott and husband, Ricci of Tahlequah, and Jasmine Rose Welch-Beardsley, Ben Welch-Bolen and Nick Welch-Bolen of Fayetteville; his great-grandchildren, Brandon Welch, Hannah Kay Welch and Bailey Elizabeth Scott; and many nieces and nephews.

The family request donations to the American Cancer Society or the First Christian Church in Marietta.
