Virgil Beard, Sr.

June 12, 1915 ~ April 11, 2005

Virgil Beard, Sr. was born in Springer, Oklahoma, to Joseph and Myrtle Beard and passed away in Bakersfield after residing in Kern County for 63 years.

He was the second of six children. On August 20, 1938, he married Frances Alice Terry in Springer, Oklahoma. They moved to Arvin, CA in 1943 and enjoyed 40 years of marriage until her death on August 13, 1978. Virgil enjoyed fishing and gambling and farmed in the Arvin area for many years.

Survivors include his sons, Virgil Beard, Jr. and wife, Pat, Rudy Beard and wife, Brenda and Terry Beard; grandchildren; Kim Coleman and husband, Mike, Tim Beard and wife, Suzanne, Eric Beard and Patrick Beard and wife, Lynn; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Kenneth Terry and wife, Mary; sisters, Jewell Shepard and husband, Ken, Gladys Sherrill and brother, Joseph Beard and wife, Bonnie and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Lovell (Apple) and Edward (Baney) Beard.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 14 from 4-8 p.m. at Mish Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 15, at Arvin Cemetery on Vineland Rd. with Pastor Phil Wallace officiating.
