Donald Lesley Bear Runner, age 51, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in Ponca City.
A traditional Oglala Lakota Sioux wake will be held at 5:00pm Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Brother Rene Hall in Pine Ridge, SD. Tuesday, He be taken to the Parish Hall in Porcupine, SD for another evening wake. Donald will be laid to rest with his ancestors at the Bear Runner Cemetery in Porcupine, SD at 11AM Wednesday, August 30, 2017. Local arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory. The Sioux Funeral Home in Pine Ridge, SD is handling the arrangements in South Dakota.
Donald was born on April 8, 1966 to Donald Larry Bear Runner and Cordelia L. Blindman Bear Runner in Pine Ridge, SD. He was raised in the Vallejo, CA area, graduating from high school there before going to college where he received an associate's degree. As a painter, Donald helped many people beautify their homes, even owning his own painting business in Bartlesville, OK. Donald was the entertainer and peace maker of his family. Light hearted and fun describe his ways, and Donald worked to help others enjoy their time, too. The Oglala Lakota Sioux provided a proud heritage for Donald. With his Native American heritage and his love for God and the Bible, Donald was a spiritual man. Ever the family man, Donald relished his time with his family both immediate and distant, he loved them all intently.
Survivors include the love of his life Roxanna Bear Runner of Vallejo, CA, cherished mother Cordelia Blindman of Ponca City, dear children Miguel Ramos of Vallejo, CA, Julian Bear Runner of Vallejo, CA, Donovan Bear Runner of Vallejo, CA, Bri Anna Bear Runner of Vallejo, CA and Robert Bear Runner of Vallejo, CA, siblings Laura Bear Runner of Ponca City, Sandra Garcia and husband Elias of Wautoma, WI, Dawn Colette Bear Runner of Fresno, CA, David Harlan and wife Talia of Ponca City, Kenneth Tony No Heart of Ponca City, Woniya Bear Runner of South Dakota and Donald James Bear Runner of South Dakota, adored grandchildren: Kalia Bear Runner, Miguel Ramos, Jr., Mykel Ramos, and Amayah Ramos, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his father.
Casket bearers will be Donovan Bear Runner, Julian Bear Runner, Daniel Morales, Marcos Amador, Cornelius LeClair, and Curtis Quiver. All other friends and family are his honorary casket bearers.
