Celebration of Life Service for William Robert “Bob” Barnes will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016, at 3:00 pm in the Antlers High School Auditorium. Robert “Bob” Barnes passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016, at his home at the age of 75.

William Robert Barnes, fondly nicknamed and known by his friends in college as Bob, was born August 31, 1940, North of Soper, OK. He was raised by his loving parents, James Amos Barnes, Sr. and Ella Lue Dale (Claborn) Barnes, out on the old Mudsand Route. Following college  he married Donna Rhea Bonds on November 10, 1962, in Durant, OK. He attended college and completed his Master of Education degree. He served in the Texas and Oklahoma Army National Guard for thirty-six years, retiring at the rank of First Sergeant from the 1/180th Infantry Battalion 45th Infantry Brigade of the Oklahoma Army National Guard. Robert, or Bob as many in the schools knew him, taught social studies and coached in Southeast Oklahoma for thirty-one years. He coached girls and boys volleyball and basketball at Ochelata, girl and boys basketball at Battiest, boys baseball and girls basketball at Eagletown, boys and girls basketball and boys football at Antlers, as well as retiring from Antlers as High School Principal.  

Robert was a member of the Antlers First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Texas Rangers, watching western movies, and visiting with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Melton “Boss” Mack, and his parents James and Lue Barnes.

Robert is survived by his wife, Donna Rhea Barnes of the home; children include Marla Annette Barnes of Frogville, James Warren Barnes and fianc� Judy Simmons of Antlers, Shirley Diane Combs and husband James of Antlers, Shellia Gay Barnes of the home, Toni Lynne Barnes of Branson, MO; brothers include James Amos Barnes, Jr. and wife Debbie of Soper, Roger Dale Barnes and wife Catherine of Soper, Harry Griffin and wife Janice of Miami, OK; grandchildren include Charles Wayne Battles, Jr. and wife Mykee of Broken Bow, Kristen Dale Johnson and husband Leslie “Bear” of Frogville, Lana Rhea Barnes of Antlers, Robert Marion Tyson of Soper, Robert Kurtis Barnes, Hannah Elizabeth Barnes, and Parker William Barnes all of Lindsay, OK; great-grandchildren include Keeley Dale Johnson, Leslie Kooper Johnson, and Landry Kage Johnson all of Frogville, and Saylor Leigh Battles of Broken Bow; Aunt Dorothy Faye Littrell of Denison, TX; Uncle Kelsey Barnes and wife Billie of Boswell; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends. 

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 19, 2016, from 6:00-7:00 pm in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo, OK. Family and friends are invited to sign the guest book or send private condolences to the family at www.praterlampton.com.
