Enid man dies in wake of crash

An Enid man died Monday morning in the wake of a one – vehicle crash, but authorities don't think that is what killed him.

Authorities believe a medical condition caused Peter Allen Asplund, 60, to crash his 2002 GMC Sierra pickup into a pair of rental trucks after driving off North Van Buren, Enid Police Captain Jim Divison said.

He said the crash itself wasn't serious enough to cause life-threatening injuries.

Nivison said Asplund may have suffered a heart attack or stroke before the 8:11 AM crash in the 600 block of North Van Buren.

"We don't have a definitive answer from the medical examiner", Nivison said.

Asplund was driving north on Van Buren Monday morning when his truck struck the median near Oak, according to an EPD report.

The truck continued across the southbound lanes of traffic and hit the west curb of the overpass before going down into the grass the report states.

It came to rest after crashing into two parked U – Haul trucks in the parking lot of a truck rental business, causing an estimated $10,000 in damage, according to the report.

Asplund was pronounced dead at Integris Bass Baptist Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Brown – Cummings Funeral Home.
