Janet LaNore (Heath) Applegate

Janet LaNore (Heath) Applegate
January 10, 1947 ~ January 27, 2018

Janet Heath Applegate, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away quietly at her home on the morning of January 27, 2018 after a difficult and courageous battle with cancer. A viewing will be held from 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 2434 West 26th Avenue Stillwater, OK. in the LDS Relief Society room. Funeral Services will follow at 10:30am on Friday, February 2, 2018 where an additional viewing will precede the services from 9 am to 10 am. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Salt Lake City, UT on January 10, 1947, she was the oldest of two children born to Edwin and Marian Heath.

Jan grew up in a loving home surrounded by the faith of her parents and the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Throughout her childhood she was a bit of a tomboy. She was the neighborhood kickball and marble champion, and she loved to fish, hike, play golf, and have fun. Her father passed away when she was twelve years old; this tragedy defined her life as she chose to rise above it, helping with the family income, and was a second mother to her younger brother Eddie. She believed in hard work and was famous for the to-do lists she wrote for herself, her family and anyone willing to help!

She graduated from Jordan High School in Sandy, UT and attended Brigham Young University where she met her sweetheart, Michael Applegate. She and Mike loved each other dearly and were rarely apart. They were truly best friends and loved to travel, having adventures all over the world. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they especially loved serving the Lord together and supported each other in various church assignments throughout their almost 50-year marriage. A highlight was their call to be a member of the presidency and assistant matron in the Oklahoma City Temple for three years.

Jan's life centered around her family. She was devoted to Mike and their three children, Sydnee, Ashlee, and Kit. She was their biggest fan and involved herself in their schools, sports teams, music lessons, ballet recitals, Halloween costumes, holiday fun, birthday parties, and everyday life. This continued into their adulthood-they consider their mom to be one of their best friends. As the grandchildren were born she became Grammy. She was proud of each of them, displaying their pictures throughout her home. She took them on walks, did craft projects, made gingerbread houses with them at Christmastime, read them books, and made them cookies and treats. They were dearly loved by her and they knew it.

Jan was a Utahan by birth but an Oklahoman by choice. An avid Oklahoma State fan, her blood bled orange. She cheered on her beloved pokes at basketball and football games. She loved Oklahoma, its beautiful sunsets and wide open prairies but most especially the people here. She worked and served the citizens of her hometown at the Stillwater Medical Center for 25 years, a job that brought her joy. Never one to meet a stranger, many considered her their Stillwater mom or grandma. Making friends feel welcome was important to her and she showed it through her delicious cooking and a beautiful presented table. She enjoyed good food, fabulous jewelry, and great clothes and sharing those things with her daughters and her special group of friends. These relationships are a testament to her Christ like compassion and love. She will be held in our hearts forever.

She is preceded in death by both parents; one, brother, Edwin (Eddie).

Jan is survived by her husband, Mike; daughters, Sydnee (Dale) Edman and Ashlee (Greg) Robertson; son Kit (Liberty) Applegate; grandchildren, Parker and Ellee Edman, Michael and Tyler Robertson, Josiah, Gavin, Gunnison, and Emmeline Applegate.

Please send flowers to the Strode Funeral Home; in lieu of flowers please send donations to the Stillwater Medical Center Foundation.
