Leroy Ross Almy Jr.
May 24, 1926 ~ March 13, 2015

Leroy Ross Almy, Jr., 88, of Ponca City, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at Ponca City Nursing and Rehab Center. Leroy was born on May 24, 1926 in Keystone, OK to Leroy Ross and Beulah Dean (Lewis) Almy.

Leroy was better known as "L.R." and lived with his beloved maternal grandparents in Westville, OK. His mother then came to Ponca City when he was 8 years old and was a country boy, attended McCord Schools thru the 8th grade. He went to work on nearby ranches as a "working cowboy". He was then drafted and became a Navy man serving his country during WWII. He was deployed to Pearl Harbor, Okinawa, the Philippines and then to Tokyo when Emperor Hirohito surrendered to Gen Douglas MacArthur. Leroy was sent to France, the North Atlantic, the Panama Canal and then to Philadelphia to end his tour of duty. He then came back to Ponca City, married and worked for Sullivan Trucking for 17 years.

Leroy was a gentle, loving, hardworking husband and father who loved the Lord, his family, guitar, singing and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-Bill, brother-Earl and sister-Maxcene Humble Adams.

He is survived by his loving wife-Leona Ilene (Fearnow) Almy whom he married on April 1, 1968, 3 daughters; Vickie Jeffus and husband Rudy of Camden, AR., Sharon Mitchell and husband Rusty of San Tan Valley, AZ., LaWanda Almy Locke of Ponca City, son-Jim Almy and his wife Victoria of Inola, OK, 2 step-sons; Gary Lee Mackey and his wife Laura of OKC and James Dean Mackey of El Reno, OK. His sister-Claudette McMahan Reynolds of Atlanta, GA., as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Grace Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Bosworth officiating.
