Velesta I. Allstrom

July 27, 1925 ~ July 13, 2002

Velesta I. Allstrom, 76, of Amarillo died Saturday, July 13, 2002.

Private graveside services will be Saturday in Claude Cemetery with Landon Rowell, great-nephew, officiating. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. in Bell Avenue Church of Christ with John McMath, minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street.

Mrs. Allstrom was born July 27, 1925, in Claude, to Bascomb and Ruby Bagwell. She graduated from Groom High School in 1942. She married Oliver Allstrom on March 17, 1948, in Pampa.

She lived in Houston for 40 years before moving back to Amarillo in 1989 to be near her family. She loved sports, especially football and basketball, and she was an avid Houston Cougar fan.

She enjoyed sewing crafts and working puzzles. Most importantly, she loved the Lord; her faith was unshakable.

She was an active member of Bell Avenue Church of Christ, where she was the church secretary for four years until her illness. Her family and friends will miss her friendly smile and the joyous sound of her laughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971; and her parents.

Survivors include a brother, Hulon "Slim" Bagwell and wife, Odessa, of Amarillo; two sisters, M.E. Brunson and husband, Warner, of Claude and Melva Miller of Seattle; two nieces, Linda Pankey of Waco and Ellen Rowell of Oklahoma City; a nephew, Henry Bagwell of Amarillo; and a host of family and friends.

The family suggests memorials be to Search TV Ministry, P.O. Box 371, Edmond, OK 73083; or BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176.
