Connie Jean (McGill) Allen

Connie Jean (McGill) Allen
July 24, 1942 ~ August 5, 2018

Memorial services for Connie Jean Allen will be held Friday, August 10, 2018, at 10 a.m. at First Christian Church with Reverend Ron Pingelton officiating. Online condolences may be made at http://www.whartonfuneralchapel.com.

Connie Jean was born July 24, 1942, in Alva, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of four daughters born to Vada and Gene McGill. She passed away August 5, 2018, at the age of 76 years and 12 days.

Connie graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1972 with a master's degree in education. She married Gary Northern and had two children Rene Verhaert and Greg Northern. In 1964 they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she taught middle school home economics. Her next move was to Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1968 to teach English to adults. She stayed there a year then moved back to Alva.

In 1969 she moved to Forgan, Oklahoma, and taught art and home economics to high school students for seven years. Connie married Jim Allen in 1975 and moved back to Alva to farm and ranch. Jim brought three children to the marriage: Jimmy, Timmy and Jackie Allen. Alva has been her home ever since.

Connie was president of the Oklahoma Garden Club. She held chairmanships in Yearbook, Litter & Pollution, Conservation and Energy Awareness and was a lifetime judge. She was also very involved in the local Iris Garden Club. She was secretary, vice president and then president and loved every minute of it.

Connie and Nadine Hayes owned The Quilters Depot in Waynoka, Oklahoma. She loved helping people learn to quilt. Connie made beautiful quilts her family will cherish forever. Connie loved to sew maybe as much as she loved to fish.
Connie was a founding member of the Peace by Piece Quilt Guild and served as the first president for a two-year term. She was one of the 1960s girls that met every Wednesday at Holder Drug for coffee. She loved duplicate bridge and bowling with her friends.

She had many hobbies including sewing, fishing, gardening, crafts and bowling. Her greatest joy was playing with her nine grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Share Medical Center Foundation.
