Geraldine Eunice (Mielkey) Alexander

Geraldine Eunice (Mielkey) Alexander
March 7, 1918 ~ December 25, 2018

Geraldine Eunice Alexander, age 100, passed away on December 25, 2018 at Guest Home Estate, Caney, Kansas. Geraldine was born March 7, 1918 at Stone Community, southwest of Niotaze, Kansas to William and Sylvia Mielkey. She attended Niotaze Elementary School and graduated from Peru High School, Peru, Kansas in 1935. She married Harold M. Alexander in 1937 and they made their home in Chautauqua County all of their married life and had four children: Dixie, Gary, Charlene, and Jerry.

Geraldine was a faithful member of the Peru Assembly of God. She and her husband, Harold, initiated the reopening of the Jonesburg Church in the early seventies. She was an encouragement at both places as their pianist. Geraldine was a devoted community leader on the election board in Chautauqua County Kansas fifty years.

Geraldine enjoyed cooking and treating her family and friends with amazing tasty treats. She was famous for her chocolate cake with burnt sugar icing. Her grandchildren always knew home-made rolls and great cooked meals would be the order of the day when they came for a visit to her home. Her loving smile of approval for good behavior and golden rule living made her house a home. Geraldine was an avid reader and read her Bible daily. Her rhyming, singing, and laughter was contagious as she infected all with her love for life and her Lord Jesus. She would want all to realize that each new day will be more wicked than today ... but God's Word says "Today is the day of salvation."

Survivors include three children: Gary M. Alexander, Charlene (Leon) Chandler, and Jerry W. (Sharon) Alexander; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold M. Alexander; daughter, Dixie V. Alexander; granddaughter, Gina Chandler; one sister, Lillie Mae Shaw; one brother, Bill Mielkey.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, at the El Cado Cemetery in Peru, Kansas, with Pastor Earl Tresner officiating. Services are under the direction of Davis Family
