Ms. Abernathy died March 24, 1917 in Buchanan, New Mexico.

(6 Apr 1917, the Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Clarence Richardson returned Sunday from Buchanan, New Mexico, where he Had been to see his sister, Mrs. Jake Abernathy, who died March 24th. Mrs. Abernathy was well known in and around Carter and her many friends Here will sorely regret to hear of her death.
