DAVIS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
DEWEY, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)

Emma Loraine Stevens, 87, of Dearing, KS, died Sunday in Coffeyville, KS.

Emma was one of 13 children born to Uriah Maris and Melvina Anna (Kelly) Hadley on January 25, 1930, in rural Wann, OK, and is survived by just one brother Louis. She was raised in rural Wann on the family farm graduating from Wann High School in 1950. While still in school she noticed a young farm boy who drove a 1935 Ford Roadster and as she said, “It was love at first sight.” Shortly thereafter, they were introduced at a community event and were united in marriage on July 25, 1950. They bought a 60-acre farm north east of Wann where they made a home and started their small family.

Once their youngest child Gary started school, Emma went to work at the school cafeteria - a treasured job which allowed her to still be home for her children after school. When David was entering the seventh grade they built a new home on the farm that had indoor plumbing. After the kids were grown they moved to Bluejacket where she started working for Wal-Mart in Vinita. She dearly loved this job because of all the wonderful people she worked with. After a few years they moved east of Dewey to the Montgomery Ranch to look after gas and oil leases on the ranch and for the past 12 years in Dearing.

Emma’s passions revolved around her husband and family. She strived to be a good mother and to bring up her boys in a Christian home. Not only did she raise her family but many other children along the way, from close friends’ to grandkids. When the boys were young she faithfully attended their school activities and sports; later in life she was an avid fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Her boys dearly loved her and went out of their way to have fun with her at every opportunity. She will be dearly missed.

Emma is survived by her loving husband Floyd of the home; three sons, David and Gloria of Bartlesville, Clifford and Janice of South Coffeyville, and Gary and Sherrie of Tyro, Kansas; one brother Louis Hadley and Lilly of White Oak, OK; six grandchildren, Angela Combs and Jeff, Virgil Stevens and Christy, Tammy Lewis and Bill, Stacy Stevens, Aaron Stevens and Tasha, and Amy Palmer; eight great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and eight sisters.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11-8, and Thursday 9-11 at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church, PO Box 310, Dearing, KS 67340.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, at Wann Community Center. Interment will follow in the Wann Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home.

Online condolences and remembrances may be shared with Emma’s family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
