Mary Lucille "Sue" Beck-Peterson passed away
Tuesday, February 20, after a brief illness,
she was 95.
Sue was born to John G. Beck and Helena
Gaertner Beck at the family home in Nowata.
She was the youngest of three children, with
older brothers John C. Beck and Robert S.
"Bob" Beck. Sue attended school in Nowata
and, after graduating, attended Lindenwood
College in St. Charles, MO, where she
graduated with a degree in English
Literature. While at Lindenwood she became
friends with Mary Jean Cory who she
introduced to her brother Bob and who later
became her sister-in-law.
Sue had a 30-year career at Phillips
Petroleum in Bartlesville where she worked
and became life-long friends with many
interesting people. She was active in the
Presbyterian Church in Nowata. Most
importantly she was involved in the lives of
her family, particularly her nephews Cory,
John and David Beck. She devoted much of her
life to caring for her parents as they aged.
Sue was a person who never complained nor
had an unkind word to say about anyone. She
looked for the best in people and was always
optimistic. "It will all work out" was
something she was known for saying and,
somehow, more often than not, it seemed to.
Through her younger years and well into
adulthood Sue was an avid photographer and
many of her photos have preserved memories
of the family through the years.
Sue resided in the family home in Nowata
until the past few years when she moved to
Canoe Brook Assisted Living in Catoosa. In
2006 she married Terry Peterson of Nowata,
he is deceased.
Sue was preceded by her parents, John and Helena Beck and brothers John and Bob.
She is survived by
sister-in-law Mary Jean Beck of Broken Arrow
and nephews Cory (Cherry) Beck of Sioux
Falls, SD, John (Susan) Beck of Norman and
David (Pam) Beck of Tulsa, and six
grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
Come and go visitation will be held on
Saturday from 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM and on Sunday
from 1:00 PM -5:00 PM in the Benjamin
Funeral Home, 114 W. Cherokee.
Services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday,
February 26, at Benjamin Funeral Home in
