BARTLESVILLE EXAMINER-ENTERPRISE
BARTLESVILLE, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)

Memorial services for G.L. Myers are 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 14, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Nowata with Pastor Jeffrey Rickman officiating. Family will be receiving friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Benjamin Funeral Service.

Garold Lennox Myers, Jr. (G.L.) was born September 2, 1921, the third of six children. He departed this life, Sunday, April 9, 2017. G.L. grew up in Nowata, and graduated from Nowata High School. After graduation, he moved to San Diego where he was employed building B-25 airplanes. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was then stationed in San Diego. After being discharged, G.L. moved back to Nowata and worked for Independent Eastern Torpedo Company as an oil well shooter. He also met the woman of his dreams, Claudean Davis. They were married in 1946 and later had two sons, Gary and Glenn. In 1959, he and his father, and two other employees purchased the company. He continued working as a partner in the company until he decided to make a career change in 1970. This took G.L. in a whole new direction in life, he finally decided to pursue his dream and become a golf pro. He became the golf pro and superintendent at Nowata Country club. At the age of 70, he decided to hang up his hat and retire. Golf was a game he could never beat. Though he did set a low score on sand greens in Nowata, which has never been beat or tied (26 on a par 33 for 9 holes). On grass greens, he still holds the record at Nowata Country club (60 with a par of 66).

In the event that you see a ghostly figure at Nowata County Club, don't be alarmed, it's just G.L. perusing his dream of perfection; nine putts, nine birdies. G.L. will be greatly missed.

G.L. is survived by his sons, Gary Myers and wife Deborah, Glenn Myers and wife Susan; brother, Bob Myers; Sister, Shirley Bettes and husband Jerry; many nieces and nephews; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

G.L. was preceded in death by his wife, Claudean Myers; Parents, G.L. and Leola Myers; Brother, Donald Myers; sisters, Gweneth Riley and Betty Bim; Grandson, Morey Myers
