Wayne Eldon "Butch" Epperson was born October 25, 1941 in rural Nowata County, northwest of Nowata, Oklahoma to Loyd E. and Edna Gibson Epperson. He died on July 26, 2007 at Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 65.

A funeral service will be held Saturday July 28 at 2:00 PM at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Chapel.

Burial will be Sunday July 29 at 3:00 PM at Nowata Memorial Cemetery, Nowata, Oklahoma.

Visitation will be Friday from 12-8 PM at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home.

Butch grew up and graduated from Delaware High School in 1959. He then attended Northwestern Oklahoma A & M at Miami, Oklahoma from 1959 through 1961. He then transferred to Oklahoma State University where he earned a B.S. in Biological Science. He also earned his Masters and Doctorate degree at Oklahoma State University. Butch began teaching at Cameron University in 1968 and retired in May 2003 after 35 years of teaching. He married Barbara Lee on September 1, 1962. He served on the Cameron University Faculty Council and Student Affairs Committee for many years. He was director of the regional Science Fairs that were held at Cameron University. He was also a sponsor of regional Science Fair winners at national competitions. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, and the Jockey Club. His hobbies were raising horses, horseracing, and hunting

Mr. Epperson was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, of the home; daughter Nikki Elise Epperson Smith and husband Ronnie, Lawton; daughter Dawn Erika Williams, Cache; son Ethan Evan Epperson and wife Amy, Lawton; 4 grandchildren, Justin Shayne Smith, Emilee Dawn Betancourt, Mason Williams, and Remington Kent Eston Epperson; sister Ruth Spurgeon and husband Allan, Nowata, Oklahoma; sister Jean Ford and husband Jess, Delaware, Oklahoma; brother Dale E. Epperson and wife Carol, Nowata, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Roy Carl Lee and wife Doris, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Anna Lyons ,Indiahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
