Mildred Marjorie (Cleghorn) Hudson

Mildred Marjorie Cleghorn Hudson, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in Oklahoma City. She was 90 years of age. She was a member of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe.

Mildred was born August 25, 1922 in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Grant Cleghorn and Mary (Lasley) Cleghorn. She was a graduate of Burbank High School and Oklahoma State University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology.

She served her country in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. 

Mildred was last employed as a social worker with the Otoe-Missouria Tribe and was a member of the Native American Church. She was a member of the Otoe War Mothers and was active with the Otoe Veterans. She loved her Oklahoma State University athletics and attending the many Pow-Wows throughout her years. 

She is survived by her two children, Stephen Finley and wife, Brenda, of Oklahoma City, and Leslie Batten and husband Troy, of Vancouver, Washington; six grandchildren, Scott Finley, Austin Finley, Cash Johnson, Steve Johnson, Bryon Batten and Ann Sanders; eight great grandchildren, Rhyan Finley, Gavin Finley, Anaya Sanders, Emily Sanders, Titus Sanders, Aryq Batten, Devon Batten and Kaylee Batten; other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Mary Cleghorn; her siblings, James, William, Cecelia and Mary.

Prayer services will be held each evening at 7 p.m. at the Otoe-Missouria Cultural Center. A noon meal will be served on Monday, August 26, 2013 at the Cultural Center, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. The Native American Church will be presiding over the service. Burial will follow in the Cleghorn Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Casket bearers are Scott Finley, Austin Finley, Bob Cleghorn, Bryon Batten, Lonnie Burnett and Lon Stagner.
