Sloan "Jeep" Hunnicutt

Sloan "Jeep" Hunnicutt
September 14, 1935 ~ December 8, 2020

Sloan "Jeep" Eugene Hunnicutt, 85, of Warner, Oklahoma passed from this life on December 8, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born to the late James Sloan Hunnicutt and Georgia Hunnicutt on September 14, 1935.

He went to Keefeton Schools from 1940-1945. From 1945-1948, he went to Lone Star School in Warner where he not only spoke highly of his school but his teacher, May Davis. He graduated from Warner High School in 1952. Jeep furthered his education at Connors State College before transferring to Oklahoma A&M, what is now Oklahoma State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in Animal Husbandry. He often said he didn't know how he did it, but somehow, he made it through and graduated.

After graduating college, he would then move to Nebraska where he taught GED classes to Korean Vets. At the same time, he was also enjoying his time calf roping. He then joined the Air Force in 1958 until 1960 where he served as a generator mechanic and spoke fondly of his military experience. From 1960 until 1966 he worked at Camp Gruber, OK until he became employed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs until his retirement in 1992. After he retired, he worked for the Tahlequah Sale Barn. He then would spend the rest of his days working on his ranch doing what he loved until the day he passed. He loved everything associated with agriculture including owning and working oxen and mules. He also enjoyed gardening and just being outdoors visiting and telling tall tales, while conducting business on the porch of his cabin. Anybody who met Jeep Hunnicutt quickly came to realize that he was very comical and loved to aggravate and pester people in a fun way that made you want to come back for more. Jeep's favorite music was Western Swing by Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Over the years he had collected many records, 8 tracks, tapes, CD's, and knew Bob Wills and his band personally.

Jeep is survived by his fiancé, Freda Swon, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, Anthony Hunnicutt and wife Dendra of Warner; brother, Sid Hunnicutt and wife Sharon of Lavaca, Arkansas; granddaughter, Ashley and husband Jessie of Tahlequah.
Jeep was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Murrande Cook Hunnicutt; father, James Sloan Hunnicutt; his sisters, Estaline Scott and Bernadine Hunnicutt.

Viewing will be Friday, December 11, 2020, from 9AM to 8PM at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The family will greet friends Friday night from 5 PM to 8PM at the funeral home. Jeep will be taking his final mile of his journey from his ranch to his resting place being pulled by his mules in his wagon.

Graveside services will be Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 2PM at Warner Cemetery.
