Clara L. (Foreman) Ashwood

June 17, 1911 ~ May 14, 2004

Clara L. Ashwood, 92, lifelong Muskogee County resident died Friday morning in her home.

Clara was born on June 17, 1911 to William H. and Jenny (Clevenger) Foreman where she was raised on her family home place south of Muskogee near Keefeton. Clara was educated at Sequoyah Elementary Schools and later at Muskogee Central High School. The oldest of eight children, Clara returned home to help raise her siblings.

On November 16, 1930, she and Robert F. Ashwood were married. Mr. Ashwood preceded her in death on November 17, 1986.

During the 1950's Clara was the cook at Sequoyah Schools. For many years Clara operated her family dairy farm south of Muskogee. She was a charter member of the Keefeton Trinity Baptist Church.

In 1967 Clara moved to Muskogee where she joined and became an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Mrs. Ashwood sewed and was a seamstress to many in the Muskogee area. She loved making quilts, especially for her children and grandchildren to enjoy. To Clara yard-work was a passion and she always displayed beautiful flowers for enjoyment to her and others.

Mrs. Ashwood was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Bill Foreman and Ralph Foremen and one sister, Hilda Walden.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Jim Kizzia, Sr. of Ft. Gibson, Nina and Kenneth Wilkins of Rural Copan, OK, Carol and Billy Boyd of Claremore; one son, Bob Ashwood of Claremore; two brothers, Gene Foreman of Keefeton, Kenneth Foreman of Bartlesville; two sister, Zelma Moran of Yukon and Pauline Blagg of Tulsa; eleven grandchildren; twenty great- grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 17, 2004 at Immanuel Baptist Church, with Rev. Glen Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Jim Kizzia, Jr., Mark Kizzia, Phillip Kizzia, Stanley Franklin, Lance Boyd, Eric Salmon will be pallbearers.

Funeral services are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
