Gordon Blankenship

Gordon Blankenship
November 12, 1922 ~ November 7, 2012

Gordon Blankenship, 89, of Muskogee, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 7, 2012. Gordon was born to Gilford and Ruby (Howell) Blankenship on November 12, 1922.

It was in the Muskogee area that Gordon married and raised his family.

He retired from Container Corporation of America and was a charter member of Keefeton Freewill Baptist Church, but spent his later years attending Lawrence Street Baptist Church in Muskogee, to be near his family.

He enjoyed family gatherings, church fellowships and playing dominoes with friends. Gordon loved life, loved people, and was loved by many. He never met a stranger and always shared a smile that would lift your heart. His joy came from the Lord, the time he spent reading God’s Word and his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He shared that joy and love throughout the generations of his family, and with everyone he met.

Gordon was preceded in death, by his parents, his young daughter, Cheryl Blankenship, his son, Ronnie Blankenship, his grandson, Nathan Thomas, his son-in-law, Michael Riley. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers, one infant sister, and the mother of his children, Evelyn Loree Blankenship (Smith).

Gordon leaves behind, to cherish his memory six children, Linda Blankenship, Iris RIley, Steve and Carol Blankenship, Susan and Steve Thomas, Jeff and Patti Blankenship and Greg Blankenship, all of Muskogee. He leaves as well, fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, three sisters, Lahoma Culp of Anchorage, Alaska, Rolene Ricketts of Yukon, Oklahoma and Leona Riley (spouse Lute) of Dallas, Texas. These, along with a very special companion and friend, Mae (Blankenship) Featherston, Stephen and Pam Smalley and family “little guy” (Austin Voss), who Gordon has loved. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will remember him dearly.

Special thanks to Good Shepherd Hospice for providing care, compassion and support during this difficult time. It will be our privilege to celebrate his going home service on Monday, November 12, 2012, which would have been Gordon’s 90th birthday, at 1 p.m. at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home in Muskogee, Oklahoma. His body will be laid to rest at McClain Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Blankenship, Jeff Blankenship, Greg Blankenship, Monty Beck, Lt. Col. Mike Riley (US Air Force), Shaun Blankenship (Veteran US Navy).
