Lena Mae (Guthrie) Hatcher
December 21, 1922 ~ March 27, 2016

Lena Mae Hatcher was born on Thursday, December 21, 1922 to Virgil and Bertha (Perry) Guthrie, the oldest of 11 children. She departed this earth and entered eternal life on March 27, 2016 at the age of 93.

Lena Mae graduated from Wainwright High School in 1942. She attended Northeastern State University where she got her teaching degree. She began her teaching career at Salem.

On May 3, 1946, she married the love of her life Sherman Edward Hatcher. They made their home in Okmulgee where she worked at S.H. Kress while building their family. They then moved to Wainwright, OK where they opened and operated Julian Grocery store until 1971. At that time she took the position of head cook at Wainwright Public Schools later moving to Midway Public Schools. She retired in 1974 from the school systems while still maintaining the custodial work at Wainwright Assembly of God Church where she devoted her life.

Lena Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Sherman Edward Hatcher who passed on May 30, 1993; her brothers, Virgil Jr. Guthrie, C.O. Guthrie, Charles Guthrie, Leo Guthrie and John Guthrie; her brother in law, Lloyd Morgan; her sisters in law, Joan Guthrie, Lois Haslett and Mary Glover.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Gorton and her husband Jerry of Wainwright, her granddaughter, Shonda Scott of Tahlequah and one great grandson, Pitcher Scott of Tahlequah; her sister, Freeda Morgan; her brothers, Floyd Guthrie and his wife Sue, Clarence Guthrie and his wife Helen, Cleo Guthrie and his wife Eunice, Cecil Guthrie and his wife Pat; sisters in law, Wanda Guthrie, Maxine Guthrie and Edith Guthrie and her brother in law, John Hatcher and his wife Polly as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a lifetime of friends.

Viewing will be from 10 AM - 7 PM on Thursday, March 31, 2016 with her family greeting friends from 5-7 PM at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Services celebrating the life of Lena Mae will be held at 1 PM on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Wainwright Assembly of God with Reverend David Bright, Reverend Gary Guthrie, Reverend Cecil Guthrie and Reverend Clarence Guthrie officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Jerry Scott, Mike "Spanky" McSpadden, Brett Guthrie, Johnny Hatcher, Clint Guthrie and David Hollis will serve as Casket Bearers.
