Mildred Grace (Andrews) Edwards

October 27, 1916 ~ 2005

Mildred Grace Edwards was born on October 27, 1916 in Cecil. AR, the oldest daughter of twelve children from the union of Henry Lee & Clema N. Andrews, There are six surviving siblings: Alma Pierce of San Diego CA; Josephine Smith of Sand Springs; Clema Drelbelbis of Fayetteville NC; Baker Andrews; Glen Andrews of Muskogee and Frank Andrews of Palestine TX.

Mildred attended high school in Checotah OK where she met the love of her life, Wilbur Edwards. They married on August 7, 1935 in Checotah and later moved to Muskogee and began their family. They lost their first daughter Rosemary at age 5 in 1943 and raised three other children.

They lived for many years at a large farm near Haskell OK where they engaged in the constant, demanding work of a dairy farm. Mildred found happiness and contentment in this country life and worked long hard hours at her husband's side. They eventually retired and moved to their lovey home in Muskogee in June 1985.

After the children were grown, Mildred sought work outside her home and she retired from Parkview School for the Blind. Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband Wilbur in 1997 and her treasured firstborn grandson William Bonner in 2002. Wil dearly loved Gram and thought she was the best cook in the world.

Mildred also had eight half-brothers and sisters, all of whom are deceased, as well as her brothers Jack Andrews, Woodrow Andrews and Howard Andrews.

She is survived by her three children: Jo Ann Bonner and husband Dempsey of Tulsa; Janie Day and husband Jon of Coweta OK and Bryon Edwards of Muskogee; three grandchildren: Amy Brand and husband Wade of Parker CO; Matt Edwards of Muskogee and Janice Walton & husband Todd of Raleigh NC. Mildred was such a happy grandmother and she thoroughly loved and enjoyed her grandchildren. She was also blessed with two beautiful great granddaughters who were such a joy to her in her last years, Cali Edwards of Muskogee and Lauren Brand of Parker CO. Mildred is also survived by Jim Edwards & wife Gengy of Tahlequah. Jim is a younger brother of Wilbur. Mildred has many nieces and nephews; two generations, who dearly love Aunt Mildred.

She had a kind, loving way with all people and especially children. She adored each and every one of the children at Parkview. Mildred was deeply devoted to her church Southeast Baptist, and the entire church family. Church activities were a vital part of her life and she loved to sing the joyous old hymns of praise. She always sang or hummed as she went about her work.

She will surely be missed by so many people - friends and family, but we rejoice that she is rejoined with her beloved husband of 62 years and other loved ones who have gone on before her. Heaven is surely brighter today because of her presence.

A funeral service for Mrs. Edwards will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at Southeast Baptist Church with Reverend Monte Baggett and Reverend Virgle Calvert officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery.

Many friends and acquaintances may wish to make a memorial donation to her church Southeast Baptist, 2511 Hancock, Muskogee OK 74403.

The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral Service of Muskogee with the arrangement.

Friends may send condolences to the family on the web page www.bradleyfuneralservice.com.
