Clyde Benson Sparks
February 5, 1923 ~ September 10, 2008

Clyde Benson Sparks, 85 of Talihina, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Jack C Montgomery Medical Center, Muskogee, OK, after a long bout of COPD and double pnemonia.

Clyde was born in Hillsboro, Texas on February 5, 1923, the son of the late Tom and Vera Lucille (Scroggins) Sparks.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Talihina, OK and the American Legion. He was also a member of Acalanes Lodge, Lafayette, CA, Sottish Rite and the Shrine and Past Worthy Pattron of the Eastern Star.

He was a paratrooper in WWII in the European Theater, where he served with General Patton in the 101st Artillery Division. He was a POW and Purple Heart 5 times.

He worked on the Golden Gate Bridge for 16 years maintaining the bridge and also worked on many other major bridges throughouut the country. He worked as a structural steel iron worker for the American Bridge Division of US Steel and traveled to every state in the Union while working. After retirement he worked as security at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

He was the husband of Wanda Belle (Marshall)Sparks. They were married October 7, 1950 in Dallas, TX and was looking forward to their 58th anniversary. He was planning their 60th anniversary party.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Nicholos A. Sparks age 15.

He is survived by his wife;Wanda of the home, Daughter: Dallas Hughes of Talihina, OK; Son: Marshall K. Sparks and Susan of Talihina,OK; Grandchildren: Vanessa Sparks of Talihina, OK, Lucas Sparks of Denver, CO, Bridget Sparks of Las Vegas, NV, Jaqueline Sparks of Denver, CO, Jessica and Scott Martin of Ft. Hood, TX, Kimberlie and Dale Lafano of Marysville, CA, Kasey and Marc'e Hotz of Oklanhoma City, OK. Five great grandchildren and one on the way. Sister: Lee Ellon Hays of Waxahachie, Tx, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Religious Service at First Baptist Church, Talihina, OK at 10 a.m on Thursday, September 18, 2008 with Rev. Mark Cook officiating.

Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
