Errol Alan Skelton

Errol Alan Skelton, 72 of Muskogee, passed away Sunday evening, May 22, 2016, with his family by his side. He was born January 6, 1944, in Springfield, MO to Rayburn and Jean (Martin) Skelton. He grew up and attended the public schools in Muskogee and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1962.

After high school, Errol entered the United States Army. He served our country faithfully and was Honorably Discharged in 1968.

When returning home from his service in the Army, Errol embarked on a career, truck driving, that he enjoyed for many years until his retirement in 2011 from Trucks-For-You. His family recalls how much he enjoyed truck driving and influenced his son to also become a truck driver. They also recall his nicknames, "Bones", "Axehandle" and "Mr. Sweetheart." He knew when someone called him by those names, it was family or close friends.

On September 3, 2010, Errol married his best friend, Virginia Phipps-Chastain, in Muskogee, OK. Together they have celebrated almost 6 years of happy marriage together. They are active members of York Street Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carolyn Sue (Butler) Skelton; his brother, Tom Skelton; and his brother-in-law, Terry Irvin.

Errol is survived by his wife, Virginia of the home; his children, Donald Alan Skelton, Christopher Ray Skelton, Tamara Sue Skelton Underwood all of Muskogee, and Brandi LeAnne Skelton Acorn and her husband Ken of Stilwell, OK; his grandchildren, Laney Skelton Johnson and husband Lenox, Zack Cook; his great grandchildren, L.J. and Sophia; sister, Cheryl Skelton Irvin of Muskogee and her daughter, Tasha Irvin; sister-in-law, Bettie Skelton of Muskogee, OK and her daughter Stephanie DeVille and husband Mark of Owasso; brother-in-law, Winston Phipps and his wife Nicki of Muskogee; sister-in-law, Patricia Walthall of Hornlake, MS; numerous other nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

A celebration of life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016, at York Street Christian Church with Minister Gene Thompson officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Skelton, Lenox Johnson, Zack Cook, and Ken Acorn. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Cotton, Harvey Williams, Carl Threlkeld, Rex Harding, Sparky Holder and Jim York. Interment will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Military Honors.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com.
