Thank You For Your Service!

James "Jim" Showalter

James "Jim" Showalter
???? ~ August 4th, 2023 | Age 69

James (Jim) Showalter, 69, of Eufaula, entered his heavenly home on Friday, August 4th, 2023. He was born to Lee Monte and Jo Ann Showalter in Great Bend, Kansas. Jim grew up in Hutchinson, Kansas, and graduated from Hutchinson Senior High School in 1971.

Jim joined the U.S. Army in 1973 after high school and served honorably for 6 years. Jim completed his service in 1978. He went on to serve the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. He also ran a successful swimming pool maintenance and repair business.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed restoring old cars, watching NFL football, NASCAR and seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up doing activities they love. He was a natural jack of all trades and there was nothing that he could not repair. He was always busy and never let grass grow under his feet. He treated all with dignity and respect. He was a gentle, kindhearted, considerate, and generous human being. We would not have the problems we have in the world if we were all more like Jim.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Monte and Jo Ann; sister, Janice Shelly; and brother, Larry Balsmeier.

Jim is lovingly survived by his wife, Patti; sister, Linda Anne Brashear (Donald); brother, Gene Balsmeier (Debra); children, Lisa Farr (Jim), Jason Showalter, Craig Engles (Sandra) and Kaci (Joe) Crossfield. Jim had 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by other extended family members and a lifetime of friends.

A family conducted graveside service will be held 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 15th, 2023, at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery Pavilion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
