Jack D. Scroggins, age 86, of Muskogee, passed away Monday, October 2, 2017. Services will be at 11:30 am, Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Foster-Petering Ivory Chapel with Chaplain Lee Griffin officiating. Interment to follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
Jack was born August 29, 1931 in Keota, Oklahoma to Corbet and Sallie (Nunley) Scroggins. He graduated Keota High School in 1949 then enlisted in the United States Air Force. Jack served with the 8th Fighter Bomber Group in the Korean War until 1952.
It was also during this time he married the love of his life, Billie Maxine Jones in Van Buren, Arkansas. Their marriage of 66 years began in Alexandria, VA upon Jack's return from the war. His final military duties were spent working at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.
He and Billie moved back to Oklahoma where Jack graduated from Northeastern State University with his Bachelors in Education in 1956. He continued his education and received his Masters from the University of Tulsa. Jack was a teacher, counselor, and administrator with Muskogee Public Schools for thirty one years before retiring in 1987.
Jack was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #28, Retired Educators Association, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 7, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 474, American Legion Post 15, and Korean War Veterans Association.
Proceeding him in death are his parents; brothers, Cyril Gene and Elzie (Sonny) Scroggins.
Jack is survived by his wife Billie, of the home; son, Craig and wife Chris of Muskogee; daughter, Kara Davis and husband Terry; granddaughter, Evan Barnes and husband Colton; great grandchildren, Chloee and Cason Barnes, all of Tahlequah; and sister, Phyllis Durland of Muskogee; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
