Deacon Cephas Lurks

March 20, 1920 ~ December 21, 2004

Deacon Cephas Lurks was born March 20, 1920 in Ft. Gibson, OK. to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lurks who preceded him in death.

He was educated in the Fort Gibson School District.

He was united in Holy matrimony to Mrs. Beatrice McNac on July 9, 1953. Sis Bernice Lurks fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith to precede him in home going.

Deacon Cephas Lurks accepted Christ at an early age and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost at the Northside Church of God in Christ under the pastorate of Elder Carl Praeton. He moved to Dallas, TX in 1958 and united with the Wheatley Church of God in Christ pastored by the late Elder Joe S. Jackson. He united with the Saints Ville Sanctuary Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop J. Neaul Haynes. Deacon Lurks moved back to Fort Gibson, OK. in 1991 and united with Goodwill Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Raymond Toles.

He then follows his daughter and son-in-law to worship with them at Prayer House of Deliverance Ministry in Wagoner, OK. under the pastorate of Elder Alvin Smith, where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board, superintendent of the Sunday school dept. and the Pastor's aid committee, faithful until the Lord called him home.

On December 21, 2004 at 6:35 p.m., the Lord received him into his glory as his family members and pastor gathered around his bed to bid him farewell from this side of life.

Left to cherish his Great Memories is : Five sons Cephas Lurks, Jr. of Dallas, TX.; Larry Lurks of Kansas City, MO.; Thomas (Iris) Lurks of Dallas, TX.; Larry (Sharron) Lurks of Dallas, TX.; Eric Lurks (Juanita) of Dallas, TX.; and three daughters: Beverly (Garfield) Lee of Fort Gibson, OK.; Diane (Lonnie) Hill of Muskogee, OK.; Letty Lindsey of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters Rosie Lurks of the home and Ruth Rogers of Norman, OK.; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; also a host of relatives and friends.

A Homegoing celebration will be conducted, Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. in Faith Deliverance Christian Church, 401 Independence St. with Elder Alvin Smith, officiating. Interment will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery, under the direction of Granger-House of Winn Funeral Home, Muskogee. Visitation, Tuesday, 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m.
